I first tried a Pilates class at Studio Endorphine when they opened a studio on the Plateau in 2009. After that, Endorphine moved to the mega-yoga studio Breathe on Shearer in the Pointe, and when Breathe finally moved to a smaller space on Notre-Dame in Little Burgundy, Endorphine followed suit by opening their third space at 2360 Notre-Dame West in October. Whew! Following Endorphine over the past three years has been a workout in itself. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the new space to try a private class with Dénes Dreisziger whom I highly recommend as a professional Pilates instructor. Not only does he have the body of a former dancer, he also has the patience of a true Pilates guru to help you achieve your fitness goals.
Dénes taught me how to use a Pilates reformer (an apparatus developed specifically for Pilates) and although the exercises and movements felt quite simple, my muscles told me the next day that those exercises were really working! And after an hour with Dénes, I felt like I’d grown an inch – yes, Pilates is just the thing for perfect posture!
Aside from Dénes, there’s Stéfanie Poulin, the owner and instructor, as well as two other instructors who can help whip you into shape. Classes are available in small groups of eight people ($22/class when you buy a package of 8 classes), or as private sessions of an hour. If you’d like to give Pilates a go, Endorphine offers a free trial class of 30 minutes. Put your workout excuses aside and get your endorphins going at Endorphine!
