(English) Boutique Salomon

Salomon is better known for their skis and bindings, but this sporty French company (founded in Annecy) just opened a boutique on Saint-Catherine Street West (between Guy and Mackay) with a wide selection of outerwear and activewear, plus great shoes for hiking and running. I went to check it out yesterday and was happy to find that most of their jackets, fleeces and tops from their current collection come in my favourite colours: teal and hot pink. No crazy patterns, just perfectly stylish and solid-coloured sportswear. I went to the store for hiking boots and left with a high-tech hoody, a “wind stopper” jacket, a pair of running pants AND the hiking boots. Being sporty and looking chic – even in cold weather – just got easier!

Here’s my “all-set for winter jogging, dog-walking and hiking” ensemble, including: the Softshell Tight, Swift Midlayer Hoody, Softshell Jacket, and my new Synapse hiking boots.

If you’re looking for the perfect ski ensemble, Salomon has amazing jackets and pants. I found their S-Line Prima Jacket to be the lightest and most stylish ski jacket I’ve tried in years. Although it’s pricey at $650, you’re paying for a high-quality jacket that is not bulky, resists snow and water and comes in the best colour: PINK! It’s available in black, as well.

For a more affordable jacket, Salomon also has their Fantasy II Jacket for $350 and it comes in three fun colours and black.

The Swift Midlayer Hoody is $120 and comes in the three colours shown here. It’s very soft, warm and fitted… I wore it this morning for a 6k run at -3 degrees and it was warm enough without having to wear a jacket over top. It even comes with thumb holes and fold-out mini-mittens…bonus!

The Softshell Jacket comes in this hot pink and black. Its protective Windstopper softshell and mesh panels that breathe make it the perfect jacket for cold, windy weather. I started off my run this morning with this jacket over the hoody, but it was quickly way too warm. I bet I could wear the two combined in much, much colder conditions! It was worth the $200 price tag because I will probably wear it to ski this winter.

When you visit the store – check out their wall of shoes – many of the styles come in fun, flashy colours.

Thank goodness the French mountain sports experts have come to Montreal!
