Living with HIV/AIDS has got to be one of the most challenging struggles. That’s why since 1992, the Farha Foundation has been raising money for various organizations in Quebec (76 in total!) which help those affected by HIV/AIDS. The foundation created by the late Ron Farha has donated over $9.3 million to these organizations since its launch in 1992.
The foundation’s goal for 2015 is to reach the $10-million milestone, and that’s why the committee decided to make this year’s theme for their prestigious gala, the Maskarade, 10M.
In case you haven’t heard of Maskarade – it’s THE Montreal HIV/AIDS gala benefit that many of the city’s VIPs attend each year to help support the cause. Since this year’s gala (which takes place THIS Thursday) is the final one the foundation is hosting, they expect that guests will go all out in their best black, white or red formal and cocktail-chic attire… masked, of course – or it wouldn’t be called Maskarade.
Linda Farha, spokesperson for the foundation, said that this year’s gala will be different and more playful. Attendees will enjoy an elaborate cocktail instead of the traditional and more formal sit-down dinner. There will be DJs, mixologists and unforgettable food from the likes of Le Richmond, Buonanotte, Ferreira Café and Beatrice, as well as all sorts of entertainment throughout the soirée. The foundation hopes to sell 400 tickets to help them get closer to their $10M mark.
Who will be attending? The honorary president this year is Douglas Bensadoun of ALDO Group. ALDO will also be sponsoring the annual Farha foundation walk, ÇA MARCHE, later this year. ALDO Group is a big supporter of the HIV/AIDS cause and they just recently relaunched their #FriendsFight bracelet in support of the cause. Also on the Maskarade committee this year is Joshua Fagan of the ever-on-trend Westmount fashion boutique JoshuaDAVID.
Why is it still important to support the cause? Because the fight against HIV/AIDS is not over and the foundation’s work is just as important now as it was in 1992. We’ve all been affected by the disease, and many of us have lost a loved one or a friend. It’s still essential that we carry the torch for them and remind current and future generations that the disease is far from being eradicated.
