For awhile now, I’ve been meaning to share my favourite neighbourhood coffee shops, but I wanted to do it in a chic way! This is the first of a series I call “Coffee and Couture“. On Monday, I borrowed four dresses from Montreal designer Leinad Beaudet and went to all my downtown coffee haunts with my photographer. The first coffee shop featured here is Leaves Cafe on Mountain Street, between Sherbrooke and de Maisonneuve. What I love most about Leaves is the service. I’m almost always greeted by Teagan, a young model who makes a mean latte. Her latte art skills are as pretty as she is. She’s so sweet and that makes all the difference to anyone who frequents Leaves. Hi, Teagan! Thanks for not being a snobby barista! Dapper loves her, too. The other thing I love about Leaves is that it’s a dairy-free coffee shop. You won’t find any hormone-infused Monsanto milk here! You have the choice between coconut, almond and soy milk. I always get coconut milk and I have a weakness for their matcha latte which almost tastes like dessert. I also like Leaves because it’s such a cute shop, with little cacti for sale in espresso cups. It’s also very close to home and to work. Plus, Teagan lets me go in with Dapper, as you can see on his Instagram account: @dapperschnauzer.
Since Leaves is in the Golden Square Mile, across from Holt Renfrew and beside Christofle, I like to get dressed-up when I go (but, it’s not the dress code of the clientele). That’s why I chose this Leinad Beaudet dress from the fall collection. It’s the perfect dress to wear on the terrace where I can see and be seen. What’s your favourite downtown coffee spot? Stay tuned for more of my faves, coming soon!
