Straight to the top! If you remember Club 737 at the top of Place Ville Marie you’ll remember going for the view and not much else. Now you can head there for reinvented Québec cuisine thanks to the latest addition to the string of Les Enfants Terribles restaurants (there is one in Outremont and another on Île-des-Sœurs). The top of Place Ville Marie is no longer a destination for Montreal’s club people. It’s become a place for grownups to enjoy happy hour and dinner.
I went at sundown two weeks ago for a glass of wine on the terrace during a get-together organized by Tourism Montreal. The terrace and restaurant are located on the 44th floor of Place Ville Marie. We enjoyed some of Les Enfants Terribles Québecois cuisine, like a mini version of shepherd’s pie and homemade pogos. I must go back for a full dinner!
Aside from the restaurant, you can not go to the Sommet without visiting the stunning observation deck on the 46th floor. This is where you get the truly jaw-dropping 360 degree-view of the city. If you have time this summer to explore the exhibit #MTLGO on the 45th floor – it’s a real treat. I loved the interactive panels that allow you to go through a range of video portraits of local Montrealers, organized by neighbourhood. It’s a great way to get to know each one.
Go for the view, but drink it in with a glass of wine in hand! And, think of this Tom Waits song when you take the elevator to the top.
