Introducing Cafezinho do Brasil and Tinto de Colombia
Last week I was invited by Nespresso to the Rogers Cup for the launch of two new limited edition grand cru Nespresso coffees – Tinto de Colombia (for the VertuoLine machines) and Cafezinho do Brasil (for the OriginalLine machines). Before the match, we enjoyed learning about the various notes in each coffee through a pairing (and one un-pairing) with world-renowned sommelier, Elyse Lambert.
First we tried Tinto de Colombia which tastes a bit like shortbread but also has notes of dark fruit such as blueberries and blackberries. This is a lighter coffee on the Nespresso intensity scale, so a perfect late afternoon joe.
Elyse taught us how to slurp the coffee using our spoons, which allows you to better appreciate all the subtle flavours.
The first grand cru was paired with a layered caramel and shortbread milk chocolate. Delicioso!
The second pairing was with the stronger Cafezinho do Brasil. Served in a custom REVEAL tasting glass by Riedel for Nespresso, this is the perfect jolt of coffee for any espresso fan. Elyse had us try it first with a few blueberries to demonstrate an unsuccessful pairing (because the blueberries kind of killed the taste of the coffee), but then she told us to try it with the 2nd chocolate which was a dark chocolate ganache with a layer of rich blueberry paste. Divine! I much preferred the second coffee and its pairing.
After the pairing session, we enjoyed a healthy lunch buffet prepared by my favourite caterer, Agnus Dei.
Then it was time for tennis! Here Elina Svitolina and Angelique Kerber battle it out. My grandmother’s homeland won this match! Yay for Germany.
I couldn’t leave without an outfit pic in front of the gorgeous South-American-inspired decor at the Nespresso lounge.
The Nespresso Rogers Cup goodie bag included the two limited edition grand cru coffee capsules, the REVEAL tasting glasses and four Guerlain beauty samples.
You too can enjoy the new grand crus as of August 29th!
The Tinto de Colombia capsules are available at all Nespresso boutiques or online for 12$ (box of 10).
The Cafezinho do Brasil capsules are available at all Nespresso boutiques or online for 8.50$ (box of 10).
