What’s happening in Montreal this week

The weather in Montreal is finally brilliant and what better way to celebrate than with a glass of champagne on a terrace or by visiting a new market in Old Montreal (which also happens to have an amazing terrace) – whatever your fancy, here’s what I think you should check out this week in our oh-so-happening city.

ORGANIC MARKETMarché des Éclusiers
Le Marché des Éclusiers
May – November 2016
(along the canal below McGill Street and de la Commune Street West)

A hybrid outdoor market, coffee shop, beer garden and bbq. I’m more than excited about this market because it is literally steps from my apartment and I’ve been going nearly every single day since it opened on May 1st. From organic coffee in the morning, to happy hour at night – this is the new hot spot to hang out in the Old Port. My faves: Boucherie Lawrence for their terrines and cheese, Nectar juice bar (which is also a bar – try their healthy cocktails of freshly blended juices and local spirits!) and Volcanic Organic for their farm-to-cup jo (in pretty cups, or to go)! The official opening is THIS WEEKEND. Ps: they are dog-friendly. Win-win.

TERRACE
Sofitel Terrasse Veuve Clicquot
Veuve Clicquot Terrace
Now until Fall
Le Renoir at the Sofitel Montreal

Each year the Sofitel sets up an amazing terrace for summer just outside its renowned restaurant, Le Renoir. This year is no exception and last week I attended the official kick-off to their Veuve-Clicquot terrace. The next time you find yourself downtown and thirsty, head to the Sofitel for a glass of Veuve and be sure to check out the other fun soirées they have coming up (hint, hint, Grand Prix weekend is coming soon!) Ps: Le Renoir has an incredible Sunday Brunch! Why not try it and eat… au soleil?

BALLET
Dream Away Les Grands Ballets
Dream Away by Stephan Thoss
Les Grands Ballets Canadiens
May 26 – June 4, 2016
Place des Arts / Théâtre Maisonneuve

This contemporary ballet explores the world of dreams. The scene: A couple experiencing sleepless nights (who can’t relate) because the woman is constantly tormented by her dreams. Described as resembling surrealist cinema, the fast-paced choreography will surely give us some visual material to transport to our own dreamland. I can’t wait for opening night (and perhaps, a sleepless night) this Thursday!
