Golden Square Mile Restaurant Week

I’m still getting to know my neighbourhood and all of the wonderful things that it has to offer. This week, I discovered that the Golden Square Mile association launched its first restaurant week with eight restaurants offering a fixed menu at a very nice price. Tuesday, I had lunch at the Beaux-Arts restaurant in the Museum of Fine Arts and Wednesday I had dinner at Thursday’s. I enjoyed both meals so much that I’m not stopping at two restaurants, but will be enjoying a third visit when I brunch at La Société this morning! There are only two days left to the restaurant week, so check out the participating restaurants and book yourself a table.

Lunch at the Beaux-Arts RestaurantMy date and I chose all the seafood options. For starters we had the mussel “beignets” with bunt-lemon aioli and braised leeks. Divine! For the main, we had the fish of the day, pan-fried trout served on a buttery purée of green peas. Perfection. After our meal, I had the opportunity to meet Chef Aymeric Halbmeyer – a real talent! Lunch is $35 for two courses and tea or coffee. Although the clientele is decidedly silver, the experience was golden! Consult the set menu here.

Dinner at Thursday’sAt Thursday’s, our 3-course meal included a glass of bubbly and we were wowed by our dishes. Chef Jean-Philippe Matheussen had us try all three of the starters. A modern version of a shrimp cocktail, a leek ash bread with homemade ricotta (my fave) and beef and pork dumplings with homemade kimchi and ponzu sauce. For our mains, I again chose the catch of the day which was hake served with a purée of celery root and shitake mushrooms. My date chose the bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, served with carrots, kale and apple sauce. The hearty choice. Dessert was a perfect Pavlova with fresh fruit and a generous glass of Sauternes (an $11 option).  The 3-course meal is only $40, includes a glass of bubbly and is well worth it! See the menu here.

Brunch at La Société will be a real treat, I’m sure. Find out how much I enjoyed it last time here.

Let me know if you get the chance to try one of the set menus this weekend and if not, be sure to try these restaurants anytime as they often have a set menu option.

Thank you to the GSM for inviting me to try the restaurant week!
