Libertine Bakehouse

NOTE: THE BAKERY HAS SINCE CLOSED

If Marie Antoinette and Freddy Mercury had a love child, he could’ve very well been as quirky and cute as British-born pastry chef Nick Kemball. Nick recently opened Libertine Bakehouse, a refreshingly unassuming and unconventional pastry shop on Atwater Avenue in Saint-Henri. I had first seen Nick’s pastries on Instagram and popped in one day to pick up a tart with slices of apples arranged to look like a rose – a perfectly photogenic pastry. Nick threw in one of his signature hybrid brioche-croissants (filled with chocolate, no less) and I was instantly hooked. I’ve been returning regularly for the slightly sour and subtly sweet raspberry-dusted financiers, for the gorgeous pineapple, passion fruit and coconut Saint-Honoré and simply for the sweet good nature of Monsieur Nick.Dress by Leinad Beaudet.
