(English) CAJH Maîtres Coiffeurs

Adored by fashion and beauty editors and cherished by their faithful clients, Alain Larivée and Justin Voss are a girl’s best friends for hair. While Alain tends to the cutting and styling of both celebs and regulars, Justin masters their hair colour. Their salon, CAJH Maîtres Coiffeurs, is conveniently located near Atwater Market. I went to see the duo last week for a hair update and left with some fab lady hair, perfect for an impromptu night out. When you’re given great hair, you want to take it out on the town!

Alain and Justin met at a hair salon nine years ago, and just two years later they opened CAJH in Little Burgundy. They chose L.B. for its sense of community, and they say that they love to frequent the cool places around them, like Liverpool House, Fait Ici, La Drinkerie and Bar de Courcelle. It’s become a happening ’hood since they opened their salon.

Alain is also the Canadian Creative Consultant for John Frieda, so he travels a lot to lend his skills at their events. Fashion and lifestyle magazines share his tips and tricks on a regular basis, and when I told him that I love a Gatsby Girl hairstyle, he quickly showed me an easy way to use two combs to create finger waves. I tried it at home, though, and I could not get it right, so I watched a few YouTube videos and still couldn’t find his technique. I guess I’ll have to wait until I see him again, or until he does his own video tutorial. I do have to share this one video with you… not necessarily for his technique, but I find it oddly finger-wave-ilicious!

Make sure to watch for the resident wrinkly pug, Miss Weezie Marshmallow, when you head to CAJH. She likes to set up shop on the vintage hairdryer chair, and I suspect she’s actually an alien informant for the stellar duo at CAJH, just like the pug in Men in Black!
